Paul Smith Accessories

Paul Smith’s introduction into men's fashion accessories was completely accidental. At the tender age of 16, with no career direction or qualifications, Paul Smith was pushed by his dad into a boring job at a local clothing warehouse in his native Nottingham. However Paul Smith's real passion was cycling and his ambition was to become a professional racer until he was in a terrible accident at the age of 17.

Following the accident Paul Smith spent 6 months in hospital where Paul made new friends who were mad about design! The impression made on him by his student friends from the local art college was immense.

Two years later Paul Smith was managing a fashion boutique in Nottingham and with the help of his then girlfriend Pauline Denyer, and a small amount of savings, he opened a Paul Smith shop in 1970. He commenced a course of evening classes for tailoring and with the help of Pauline (a fashion graduate), Paul was able to create a dazzling range of men's fashion designs. By 1976 he launched his first menswear collection in Paris under the Paul Smith label.

Within 20 years of his introduction to fashion; Paul Smith embedded himself as the pre-eminent UK designer. Paul Smith has the skills to anticipate, and even spark off trends not only fashion but in popular culture. Indeed, he manages to transmit a genuine sense of fun and mischief mixed with his love of traditional style and the classics.

Today there are 12 different collections; Paul Smith, Paul Smith Women, PS by Paul Smith, Paul Smith Jeans, Paul Smith London, R.Newbold (Japan only), Paul Smith Accessories, Paul Smith Shoes, Paul Smith Fragrance, Paul Smith Watches, Paul Smith Pens and Paul Smith furniture and ‘things’. Paul Smith rugs, china, spectacles and fragrance are made under license. Designed in Nottingham and London, the Paul Smith collections are primarily produced in England and Italy while the fabrics used are mainly of Italian, French and British origin.
